When the cavity is completely filled, the surface of the restoration is shaped to match the contours of the original enamel. A composite restoration is extremely durable, and perhaps the most aesthetically satisfying option. Fillings in particular are subjected to tremendous forces during biting and chewing, and are in constant use. Over time they may simply wear out, and may have to be replaced.
