Threshold Limit Value: 2.5 mg/m3 OSHA PEL & ACGIH TLV.
Effects of Overexposure: Eye Contact - Irritation, Skin Contact
- Possible Irritation.
Ingestion (Swallowing) - Swallowing large amount of fluoride may
cause fluoride poisoning.
Emergency and First Aid Procedures:
Eyes - Flush with water for 30 minutes, seek medical attention.
Skin - If irritated, flush with water and seek medical attention.
Inhalation - Remove to fresh air. Seek medical attention.
Ingestion - Acute burning in the mouth and sore tongue may result
from accidental ingestion of a large amount of fluoride. Nausea,
vomiting and diarrhea may occur soon after ingestion (within 30
minutes). These symptoms may persist for 24 hours. If less than
5 mg fluoride per kg body weight has been ingested, give milk orally
to relieve gastrointestinal symptoms and observe for a few hours.
If more than 5 mg fluoride per kg body weight has been ingested,
induce vomiting, give milk or other orally soluble calcium, and
seek immediate medical attention. For accidental ingestion of more
than 15 mg fluoride per kg body weight, induce vomiting and admit
immediately to the hospital.
